Join Pulitzer Prize nominated photojournalist Barbara L Salisbury and Momenta Founder documentarian Seth Butler as we travel to the heart of the Mekong Delta during the most vivid time of the year in this South East Asian country. Vietnam will be a welcoming host as we explore a world of saturated color, hushed pagodas and markets teaming with life in monsoon light.
If you've ever wanted to do more than simply take travel snapshots on vacation or assignment, this workshop will help you develop a style and vision that is purely your own. With our well-traveled in-country guides and award winning staff, you will explore busy city streets, radiant temples, cerulean beaches and the quiet waterways of the Delta. These locations and more will serve as a colorful canvas on which to construct a visual and audio narrative of travel through the Mekong region alongside its inhabitants.
Starting from the exciting and bustling city of Ho Chi Minh, we will explore the creation of narrative travel essays with a documentary approach. With a custom crafted itinerary designed solely for Momenta, we will journey off the beaten path to find adventures rich in cultural diversity and filled with vibrant personalities, visiting locations most tourists don't get to witness. Our instructors and staff will help students author a visual narrative that will tell the story of this captivating Asian country.
Attendees will receive one-on-one editing and hands-on instruction from our workshop staff each day while being given daily photographic "assignments" to hone an individual approach and quickly overcome weaknesses. If you are a more intermediate photographer, we will help you craft projects to further define your photography and take your personal vision to the next level.
Participants may also choose to capture audio to accompany their photo stories. It is our aim to help ambitious and aspiring photographers transcend the use of their camera as the sole recording device and explore all the story-telling potentials using various tools and concepts.
The tuition fees include all workshop related costs including: hotel accommodations, in country travel and meals where indicated on the itinerary, daily one-on-one access to an instructor, personalized portfolio reviews, all handouts and workshop materials, daily slideshows and lectures, software and equipment training. The workshop fees do not include international airfare, early arrival or late departure accommodations, visa fees (if applicable), travel insurance, medical costs, meals not indicated on the itinerary, items of personal nature including phone calls, laundry, soft drinks, alcohol, etc.
