Level One Workshops
Introductory instruction for those just starting out who seek a more relaxing yet informative environment to develop their skills.
Our Level One workshops are designed to be entry-level trips configured to help the aspiring photographer take control of the photomechanical process and learn to free themselves to create the photos they see in their mind.
These low-intensity workshops are designed to provide a rich palette of subject matter along with ample one-on-one instruction. The aspiring photographer explores the various capabilities and styles of travel or documentary photography. Students shoot throughout the day, edit nightly and relax in accommodations that help to produce a comfortable, creative mindset.
Level One workshops develop skills in: available light photography, exposure, use of flash, camera settings, elements of the photograph, picture packages, the most effective use of the "Decisive Moment" and much more. Many students use these workshops as a jumping off point to explore travel and narrative photography in our level two and three workshops.

Our Level Two workshops help a proficient photographer learn to weave intricate and meaningful narrative themes into editorial photography. You will travel to environments that are ripe for documentary photo-story packaging. With optional audio and multimedia instruction, students learn to see creatively and find a voice they can use to enhance their visual communication. Workshops like our Festival! series are ideal for these goals.
These higher intensity workshops focus on learning to package photo stories and travel narratives over the course of a multi-location, two-week exploration. We repeatedly insert our photographers into photo rich environments and closely mentor their story-telling progress.

Level Two workshops develop skills in: advanced available light and night photography, use of supplemental lighting and multi-unit flash systems, advanced story packaging, seeing the "Decisive Moment", using assistants and fixers in the field and many more advanced techniques to explore photography at a professional level.

Level Three Workshops
Photography as outreach, driven by mission. If you've ever aspired to change lives with your photography, this is your next step.
In Level Three workshops, we help aspiring and professional photographers get to the next level by putting you in real-world, assignment-based environments. In our Project workshop series, students are assigned to nonprofits in areas of journalistic import. These intensive workshops explore nonprofit assignment photography for those interested in employment or outreach. In our professional development workshops like Wedded Bliss, we use real-life situations to teach techniques necessary to produce high quality deliverables for clients.
These programs are the last step in exploring photography as a force of change and profit. We screen workshop candidates carefully to ensure that these intensive projects are professional and informative. Many attendees have honed their narrative photography in a Level Two workshop prior to attending.
Level Three workshops focus on developing the professionalism and distinguishing quality necessary to be recognized in a competitive international environment. For each workshop, we choose instructors who are well-known, active and knowledgeable in the area of focus. We set the bar very high but our student graduates always make us proud. Very many of these students go on to be successful and published professionals.
