Brittainy Newman: Project Puerto Rico West Award Winner
Meet the Winner of Momenta’s Project Puerto Rico West Award!
The Momenta Workshops West Award, created five years ago by Patrick West and Momenta’s founders, provides a full workshop scholarship for university students who display superb talent and dedication to being a force for change through documentary work. Patrick’s generous support, captivating images, and his inspiring philanthropic work are an excellent example for recipients of the West Award.
It is with great pleasure that we welcomed Brittainy Newman to our Project Puerto Rico 2018 workshop as the recipient of the West Award. Brittainy recetly graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she worked on a story about a predominantly female community in Brockport NY, where these women create, collect and nurture handmade, hyper-realistic dolls called reborn dolls, as if they were their own children.
At Momenta, we strive to teach strong storytelling as an essential part of connecting with audiences and allowing the viewer to connect with the subject matter. The judging panel liked Brittainy’s work a lot and found her approach and her storytelling skills very accomplished. She presented herself well in her strong cover letter. We saw her as a perfect candidate for the West Award: Puerto Rico which really lent itself to her multimedia approach.
We’re looking forward to following Brittainy on what is an already exciting career path and growing to become a leading voice in our community. Look at her work and follow along on her website at www.brittainynewman.com or on Instagram @bnewmanphoto.
