Momenta Workshops Announces The Lori Minden Tancer Award
July 21, 2015 — Momenta announced The Lori Minden Tancer Award, a scholarship sponsored by New York Times bestselling author Bill Tancer in memory of his late wife.
Lori Minden Tancer passed away on July 27, 2014 after bravely waging a 14-year battle with breast cancer.
“Anyone who encountered Lori would describe her as a force of nature; a woman, that despite failing health was always filled with joy and an endless love for those who entered her life even for the briefest of moments,” said Tancer. “During her last days, Lori shared with me her biggest fear was she would be forgotten. I assured her she would never be forgotten by anyone who had met her and I would find a way to make sure even those who had never met her would be touched by her spirit.”
The Lori Minden Tancer Award will go to a professional photographer working in the field less than five years. The photographer must demonstrate portfolio competency, and submit a cover letter describing the reason this award will be beneficial to his or her career.
“Lori enjoyed seeing my progress as a photographer, but she always pushed me to do more,” Tancer added. “Attending the Momenta workshop and seeing the power of image to evoke emotion and action amongst its viewers made me realize this is how I can do more.”
Lori was especially passionate about children’s issues. If selected, the photographer will work with a charity focused on children’s issues during a domestic Momenta Workshop.
“When Bill approached us with the idea for this award and told us the story of his wife’s struggle with her disease and their beautiful life together, it was an incredibly emotional moment for all of us,” said Jamie Rose, COO of Momenta Group. “This honor is something we take very seriously and everyone at Momenta feels humbled by Bill’s belief in our work.”
The award will cover one student’s tuition for a domestic workshop with Momenta, including a travel stipend of $600. The student will be able to choose from any Working with Nonprofits workshop through August 2016, which are held in collaboration with Leica Camera. Applications must be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org and are due no later than August 14, 2015, 12 p.m. PST.
