Momenta Workshops proudly announces Project Puerto Rico 2018
We are elated to announce the newest addition to our workshop lineup: Project Puerto Rico! We are looking forward to traveling to Puerto Rico this October to work hand in hand with some incredible local organizations.

In September 2017, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico to devastating effect. Today, the island is starting to see the efforts of its citizens’ hard work. Water, power and other key infrastructures have been restored. Yet much work remains to be done to help the Island of Enchantment flourish once more. Puerto Rican authorities are counting on tourism to help the island bounce back and grow.
Meanwhile, people all over the island have banded with each other to help neighbors and communities rebuild what has been destroyed and start anew on the ongoing path to improve their conditions.
Momenta is committed to actively supporting our friends, family, and fellow citizens in their efforts to get through this difficult time. Momenta believes in the power of photography as a force of change, and no one in the country needs change so much as Puerto Rico right now.
Many Americans have wondered how best to help Puerto Rico on its long road to recovery, and Momenta has resolved to gather a group of talented volunteer documentary photographers and videographers for a week-long Project workshop, where they will contribute their time and skills to document the recovery efforts and showcase the perseverance and hard work of Puerto Rican locals and nonprofits.
This workshop will feature all the elements of Momenta’s traditional Project Workshop series, including the matching of students with local nonprofits, lectures on documentary and nonprofit photography, and daily 1-on-1 editing sessions. Photographers will strengthen their skills while volunteering their time where it is most needed. Because of the island’s unique situation, this will be Momenta’s first week-long Project workshop.
This story deserves to be told, and Puerto Rico shall not be forgotten. Momenta is committed to record and display the visual testimony of the island’s efforts over the course of this workshop.
