The Momenta Workshops West Award, created five years ago by Patrick West and Momenta’s founders, provides a full workshop scholarship for university students who display superb talent and dedication to being a force for change through documentary work. Patrick’s generous support, captivating images, and his inspiring philanthropic work are an excellent example for recipients of the West Award.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Zach Krahmer to our Project New Orleans 2018 workshop as the recipient of the West Award. Zach is a student at  S.I. Newhouse, and has worked with demobilized guerrilla groups in Colombia, he will also be working with a civil society organization in Pakistan this summer.

His body of work offered the judges various an incredible cross-section of well-exceuted work that made him a stand out choice for the award. The beauty, professionalism, and very talented eye that he brings to his storytelling had our judges very impressed with his portfolio.

At Momenta, we strive to teach strong storytelling as an essential part of connecting with audiences and allowing the viewer to connect with the subject matter. As Zach told us after winning the award,

“We’re absolutely inundated by imagery and digital connection. Storytelling provides a chance to slow down and connect with something inherent within each of us. I love listening, and strongly believe in the power of simply trying to understand one another. Stories have the power to reveal our common underlying needs and interconnectedness. I’m excited to keep exploring new (and old!) methods of collaboration to create work that respectfully shares insights across communities. This award is an honor, and I am thankful to learn alongside and be a part of Momenta!”

We’re looking forward to following Zach on what is an already exciting career path and growing to become a leading voice in our community. Look at his work and follow along at his website at http://www.zacharyjohnkrahmer.com/ or on Instagram @zachkrahmer
