 @Kira Vos

Tell us about your journey as an image-maker and how you got to where you are today.

My biggest goal in life was always to travel the world. By some sort of stroke of luck, during my sophomore year at college, photojournalism found me and it has been an unbelievably perfect match. As a deeply artistic, shy person it granted me the creative freedom I hungered for and broke me out of my shell. I am no where near where I would like to be professionally but some of my biggest breaks have come from taking risks and following my gut.

What stories or issues are you most passionate about covering?

I am passionate about so many things but find myself gravitating towards women specific issues. I love to document inspiring women breaking “norms”, or changing cultural perceptions.

Where do you look for inspiration for your work: books, movies, authors, photographers, art, certain people?

I mostly follow Instagram. I love the diversity of it all and stumbling upon brilliant photographers I have never heard of. The Washington Post photographers always inspire me as well as VII.

What is one passion you have outside of photography that might come as a surprise to our readers?

Home improvements! I am surprisingly handy and unintimidated by taking on large projects (to my husband’s dismay).
